Tree nursery E. de Jong
The wide product range, that is our specialty
What do we do?
Planting material is purchased from various suppliers. This is planted out at our nursery up to two times transplanted whips. A lot of planting material is also planted in order to be able to stay on the container field one year. After one year, this is also planted out in the open ground. We sell some of our whips. In addition, part of it is replanted for three times transplanted trees. All these whips and trees are staked and tethered. Every year everything is pruned at our nursery. In addition to whips and trees, we also grow multi-stemmed trees and shaped trees. Completely new in our assortment are the ready-made hedges. These are grown in special grow bags. A very wide range of trees, that is our specialty.
How do we do that?
Before planting in open ground, the ground is sampled and inspected by the NAK. Before we start using the ground, we try to get it back in its natural state. This means that we want to create a humus-rich soil. We do this by sowing a green manure on it.
Before we plant the trees, they are pruned in the shed during the winter period and tied to a stick. We dig up these trees with sticks. We do this in large boxes with plenty of soil added so that the roots definitely don’t dry out. As soon as the weather permits, these trees are planted out in the field. This is done mechanically using a GPS system. Every year, every tree in our nursery is pruned. We prune from November to March. After the trees have been fixed at our nursery for four years, we start selling from such a block. In autumn, the canes then come off. Now we can start rooting. This too is done mechanically. The trees are loaded from the land by crane and brought back to the house that way. They are ready to be loaded into the trucks.
